APOSTOLIC PERSECUTION

It's widely believed that Christ was crucified somewhere between the years of 30 and 33 AD. We're told in Matthew 27:5 that immediately following his crucifixion, Judas Iscariot became overwhelmed with guilt and committed suicide. A year or two later, in Acts chapter 7, Stephen was killed. Stephen was related to the Apostle Paul and according to Acts chapter 6, Stephen was accused of blasphemy against God. During his testimony before the Sanhedrin (the Jewish courts), he accused them of killing the Son of God which infuriated them. So they dragged him outside the city limits and stoned him to death. Stephen is widely believed to be the first Christian martyr.
